Location: Near Stockholm, Sweden
Date: 2007-SEP-02
Habitat: Mushroom on dead Picea abies
Size: 4-5 mm
This small fly was stuck upside down on the mushroom. I wanted to look on it's upside. Not sure if it was damaged before or if I accidentally hurt it when loosening it ... Drosophilidae?

Edit: Changed subject (Mushroom fly)
Edit: Changed subject (Morpholeria sp?)

Drosophilidae?
I don't think so.
I think it is Heleomyzidae, something like Morpholeria...

Thank you Nikita!
Interesting to see that the length of the legs are so different. The hind legs are chubby and short, the tibia of middle legs are long ...

It's a pity mine was damaged. It looks like Ben Hamers
Odinia sp in the gallery ...

As with all Odinids the taxonomy is still in need of some in depth revision but - judging by the fact that it was taken on Picea in Scandinavia and its relatively large size I would hazard a guess that it is
O. czernyi which I have seen numerous examples reared from Picea in Finland and aslo a few from the same tree in Scotland.
