Berlin - August - female
I have trouble understanding how to separate
Eristalinus sepulchralis from
Eristalinus aeneus because I think that the abdomen is not 'completely' shiny in
aeneus. I see alot of photos identified as
aeneus but it looks to be matte black too. The eyes are supposed to be hairy all over for
Eristalinus sepulchralis but I do not see but a few hairs at the very bottom of the eyes on my specimen. In this case, genitalia is better for me so I've dissected the ovipositor. Thus, am I correct with
Eristalinus sepulchralis?
Maybe someone can also help with a second question: what is a difference of the ovipositor of Eristalinus aeneus? Noone draws genitalia for some reason.
Thank You for your Time and Effort.

If you have a male it's very easy. In aeneus male the eyes touch, in sepulchralis males the eyes are slightly separated. The hairy eyes feature goes for the females.....

Thank You for the explanation Gerard. I have yet to find a male. I always find the females for some reason. Based upon the hairy eyes, then I guess this is E. sepulchralis. I wonder when I will find E. aeneus. I suppose that I have to look in new places next spring/summer.
I am trying to learn more about Syrphidae. I am surprised that more people do not study them. I like Syrphidae.
Thank You and I wish for you to have a Wonderful Day.
