I hope this time I'm right with at least the family!
This picture was made by a friend, Miquel Boix, in Constantins, near Girona, in Catalonia.
I hope it is an easy one. Can anyone help with the id? It looks very similar to Asilus crabroniformis in my guide but the leg colour doesn't fit.
Thx in advanced!

Hmm, gives me the impression of subfamily Laphriinae, not Asilinae. Not one I know, though. But, hey, the family is indeed correct!

This looks like Pogonosoma marrocanum, indeed a member of the Laphriinae. The most striking characteristic are the yellow tibiae, unlike a Laphria.
Huge animals, by the way! Compare with the bee.

Thank you very much! My posting was a bit old, and I was thinking that it would go unidentified, what being such a big and striking fly was surprising to me!
I've made a search in the forum and there is a thread on this fly:

By the way, correct spelling is maroccanus
According to this thread the yellow tibiae are diagnostic. By the way, correct spelling is maroccanus
I did look at Asilidae gallery, but there were only 3(!) pictures of Asilidae, and none of this species although it was posted in the forum. It would be of great interest that pictures posted in the forum could be viewed at the gallery. I think I read something about that in the Shoutbox, but I haven't find out the way to post the pictures in the gallery.
Cheers,

I cannot by default add images from the forum to the gallery, since copy right on the images still lies with the owner and not me. If you want your images added to the gallery, however, I can do that, of course. :)

Of course you can post my images! Although in some of my posts the photos are not mine, are of friends of mine (I always ask their permission to post them here, though).
I would like to encourage forum members to allow their images to be posted in the gallery, I think is of great interest!
Cheers,

Pogonosoma is in the gallery. I will add some of the other submitted images not too long from now.
