Hi all,
While looking for pictures to compare to my
Tachina sp. (some other thread) in the gallery here I stumbled on some
Cylindromyia that look a lot like another fly I encountered in south-west France a few weeks ago.
Just comparing that one to the pictures here, it looks a lot like
Cylindromyia bicolor - mostly because that's the only one with an all red "tail" (no black tip at the end of the abdomen). Some of the other images that google deliveres for
C. bicolor do however sport a black tail too.
The only thing written I found was that
C. bicolor has a dorsal band running halfway down the abdomen, which also fits mine ...
So, could I possibly archive my animal as
Cylindromyia bicolor, or are there just too many similar species that can not be told apart from looking at images?
Thanks in advance for any answer (or tips for finding further info)!
Greetings, Arp

Aghww, sorry Paul, should have searched the forum
first on that name, not google - now I got distracted and forgot :|
Many thanks for helping even considering my obvious failure to search here!

The linked thread will turn up on google in a few days. It just was too recent. ;)
