Hi,
Could anybody explain the origin of this term? Neither my books nor Google give any information about. As far I know "eremo-" means "lonely", but this doesn?t help me to understand.

The Eremoneura includes the Empioidea and Cyclorrhapha - all of which have reduced wing venation, compared to the Nematocera and Asiloidea, for instance. I suggest that the term Eremoneura reflects this reduced venation - "lonely veined". Eremo can also mean a waste-land or barren area, and this again can refer to the lack of wing veins in this group.
