Last year I observed only 4 Tabanids whole year. Last year was wet, as a result this year the number of Tabanids in the area has skyrocketed, and I must have observed 100+ so far.

This seems to be a rarish species, from a bog.

An important view of the female.

An Atylotus sp? Hopefully not rusticus.

Very nice pics of Atylotus.

It's either A. rusticus or A. latistriatus, difficult to tell from the pics.
My guess it's the last.
Any chance you saw these at a slightly brackish (salty) situation ?
