Can anyone suggest a genus for these Syrphidae? Both flies collected at light, Townsville, Queensland.

Probably Ornidia obesa, originally from tropical America.

Mine lacks the dark streaks on the wings though, going by pictures on the web.

Certainly not Ornidia, wing venation indicates Eristalini. I'm not very familiar with the Australian fauna, but this might be the genus Austalis.

Yes, Menno is right, it is Austalis sp. I have some specimens from you Graeme, and I identified the genus, but not the species yet.
