I have problem with this Tachinid from sept.19 in the middle part of Sweden.
I have runed it twice in "The Tachinids of Central Europe"-key and I ends up with Timavia amoena.
I can see when I compaire with the few pictures on the web that my fly has "wrong" colouration of the abdomen.
Second problem is the late date.According to the key,the species should only fly to the end of july.
At least the haircomb with the intermediary bristle on the hindtibia looks OK.
Could it be a very late and worned out amoena or is it something else ?

It is Winthemia bohemani, the one Winthemia with 3 sternopleural bristles.
That caused your problem ! But you were critically enough to see that something was wrong.

Thanks Theo for helping me with this one.
When I had to choose between Timavia/Winthemia in the couplet 101.The key says the intermediary bristle on the hindtibia should be 2x as long as the other bristles for Timavia.Considerably shorter for Winthemia.
Searching in this forum I can see Walther Gritsch had the same problem with his W.bohemani.
The description of bohemani matches my fly very good with the red abdomen and the longitudinal black middle stripe that narrows towards the back.
One problem though.The key also says tibia should be yellow.Walthers fly has at least traces of yellow on the tibia.On my fly they ar all around black.

The North American key distinguishes
Winthemia from other Winthemiini by the combination of parafacial haired and "hairs on abdominal tergites 3 and 4 recumbent."
Smidtia amoena has those abdominal hairs erect.

2 sternopleurals and 1 ad on midtibia + golden dusted with a very long third antennal segment = a female Winthemia speciosa ?

@ John: alas, that doesn't work on our planet. We have W. variegata with erect hairs on tergites.
But vice versa, it might be OK !
