Dear All,
It has been some time ago, but I am back in business again making photos of flies.
Are these flies:Stratiomydae?
And what are they doing, eating?
Greetings,
Shar

They are aggregating (swarming without moving). Quite a number of Sciaridae do this, especially when they have just emerged. They are not feeding, just waiting until they are mature and ready to mate. The bright yellow and black of these
Sciara probably acts a deterrent to potential predators, so they are often quite conspicuous.
