Dear Forum,

Two specimen swept from dry area with Calluna heath and Festuca 27 Sept in the centre of the Netherlands.

Based on its wing pattern my guess is Dziedzickia marginata

Is this assumption correct or are there look alikes?

with kind regards,
Jan Wind

Dziedzickia is supposed to have fork of Cu before r-m and D. marginata has fork of M near the r-r crossvein (also called R2 or R4). Your fly has both forks much farther out along the wing.

Thank you John for your explanation and Paul for pointing out the genera name

This has stimulated me to have a more serious look at the wing venation instead of rough guesswork.
I have traced the location of fork of M and fork of Cu and the location of r-r and R-M and their relative positions with the book of Pjotr Oosterbroek European families of the Diptera and a very first glance at Geir E.e. Søli, Vockeroth and Matile Families of Sciaroidea which keys out the genera

I notice that Sc does not end in the costa/ wing margin. Is this seen correctly and of may be a clue towards a species name?
Which publication is best to go beyond genera level .

With kind regards,
Jan Wind
