Hello Tony,
Yes, I can remember that. In that case it was a male, the spots are different from those of the female. And this one is indeed a female Condidea lata! Like I already mentioned on Bugguide, the genus is sometimes considered a subgenus of Sericomyia.

Thanks Gerard, nice for me to get one correct. Only the 2nd specimen I have seen but I have not been specifically looking for Syrphids.
