Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Life and Death Struggle, Empidid and Crane Fly

I heard a sound in the leaves and discovered a life and death struggle between an Empidid fly and a Crane Fly. I took a number of pictures. The Empidid won, of course.

Can anyone supply ID information for either fly?

Hi Stephen,
I guess the winner is Empis deterra Walley, 1927 but there is another similar species. What other pictures of this species did you take.

Well, here are two more. They are not quite as sharp (there was a lot of motion occurring!) but they should show some features the first two photos didn't show.
