could someone please identify this fly, or at least its family?

my non-expert opinion: Sarcophagidae.

I think Tachinidae, which can have four stripes, rather than Sarcophagidae, which normally have three stripes. The thorax could belong to a Musca but the rest looks like Tachinidae instead.

Tachinidae it is !
