Seeking verification.
I think it was misidentified as T. trivitatta
5011350 STILT LEGGED FLY Taeniaptera trivittata Ryerson CA,IL July 17, 2005

There are six Nearctic species in the Taeniapterinae, divided over 5 genera. All these genera are distinguished mainly on characters in wing venation, head and antennal characters. These are not clear enough in the picture. The
trivittata species you mention is in
Taeniaptera, the name of the species you think it is is
Raineria antennaepes. The white fore tarsi do remind me of the European
Raineria calceata.

this is the best I could do. Next time I'll take top shots also, and closeups if possible.

You're a source of many interesting pictures. I can image it was not easy to photograph this one!
The new pictures only cannot rule out
Calobatina, but I think it is indeed
Raineria. A blow up of the head of the first picture might be decisive but I think you are already save with your first assumption. ;)
