Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Pacific Coast Fly. Family?

This fly was in a fresh water marsh only about 0.5 km from the Pacific Ocean.

Family Micropezidae perhaps? ID help appreciated.

Length was about 7 mm. Oregon USA, 13 May 2007.

It looks like Scathophagidae, maybe Cordilura?

Yes, Micropezidae. If you have a good lateral view, we might be able to place it in genus.

Chen, Paul, Tony, Thanks very much for your help with this one. It was a nice-looking fly and I was excited to photograph it before it flew off, and excited now to have an ID for it.

It did fly off too fast for a lateral or "face" shot, unfortunately.

According Andrey Ozerov it is Neria (syn. Compsobata) univita, Walker.
