is this Brachymeria minuta or something else? And is it a soldierfly parasite? It looked very much like a Stratiomyd as it climbed about in bracken in north london, so I wondered who was imitating who

thanks,
Jeremy

Yep. Hymenoptera, chalcidid one (s.f. Chalcidinae, genus Brachymeria). They're ectoparasites, but soldieflies are not their target.

There is no record of Brachymeria parasitizing Stratiomyidae in the host database.

Butterflies' larvae are more "prone" to be the target of the female.

This looks more like Brachymeria tibialis than B. minuta.
