Hello all,
Because there appeared to be a need for an online meeting point for people interested in the nature of the Guianas (to get identifications, to meet other people etc.) I have decided to create a forum for this purpose: www.guianasnatureforum.org.
I just finished creating the lay-out and writing an introduction and would like to invite you all to have a look and possibly post something. It is mainly an English language forum, but contributions in Dutch and French are welcome too. I’ve tried to explain everything about this forum in the forums topmost message.
I would like to emphasize that although there is an overlap between diptera.info and this new forum, I think these forums are mostly complementary. Diptera.info is great for flies (and I will redirect people to here) while the new forum will hopefully help people getting other species from the Guianas identified.
I hope to see you soon at www.guianasnatureforum.org! And if you like it, please forward this message to people who you think may be interested too.
Best regards,
Scarabaeoid

How about creating a Facebook group? I find FB far easier to work with than lots of different forums, all with different logins etc :)

Well, I have never used Facebook and I know a number of people who will never become FBers because of privacy issues. Also, my forum is free of commercials. But yes, you will have to create a new account to become a member. I think the benefits of a stand-alone non-commercial forum outweigh the disadvantages for many people. I know several lively forums without ties to FB and I hope GNF becomes one too. And I think I will be quite happy with just 1 member for every 10 Diptera species flying around here...;)
