This male robberfly might be the same species as a female I photographed 15 minutes later. Travis County, near Austin, Texas, 7th June 2013.

As I remember it, this male was quite a lot smaller than the female though, but I guess that's common.

Males of Promachus bastardii and related species have the white tail.

When the white spot is not at the tip of the tail, but a band with black beyond, you probably have Efferia near albibarbis.
