Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Melangyna. Lasiophthalma or perhaps lucifera?

Anyone being able to decide if this one is lasiophthalma or lucifera? Found in light decidious woodland in Denmark, Zealand, Allerød, 250413. Lasiophthalma is common in Denmark but only a few specimens of lucifera are listed?

Hello Martin,
Male M. lasiopthalma. The face is broad in M. lucifera. Also the spots on the abdomen are silver dusted in M. lucifera.
I found a male M. lucifera this year in the Netherlands, first record for the country. On an excursion in Belgium a week later we found a female M. lucifera, also new for the country. It seems M. lucifera is expanding. So look out for this species!

Thanks for determination of this Melangyna. Pictures of male certain lucifera does not abound on the internet. Thought that the silvery colouration of the spots were varying in strenght, but I'll admit that this one is very deep yellow. Have heard somewhere that the colouration of the middle legs are of importance; lucifera being far more yellow than the more black coloured lasiophthalma. Here a shot of the legs of this one. Hello Martin,
The colouration of the mid tibia is only relevant for females, not males.
When I will publish my article I'll put in decent photo's of both males and females. I'll make the article available to you in .pdf when it is printed.
