This spider had just captured this fly -- Juneau, Alaska in early September. Any idea on the family for the spider and the fly?

Thanks,

Bob

The fly is a male Hydrellia (Ephydridae)

Thanks so much Tony. So nice to have a photo of an adult shore fly to go along with our book on Aquatic Insects in Alaska.

There is a possibility that this Hydrellia may be terrestrial - H.griseola (which occurs in Alaska) does mine aquatics, but is more often found in terrestrial grasses. Besides which, could you not find a more dignified picture, as befits a family like Ephydridae? |t
