Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Medium sized Syrphid

Hello!
I found this Syrphid yesterday at the wood (Ostwestfalen/Germany). It was considerably smaller than the also flying
Syrphus sp.. I'm not sure: could it be
Parasyrphus punctulatus? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I think you're right, it seems to be a male of that species.

Probably it is P. punctulatus. But from the morphology alone it could be P. macularis as well. They are distinguishable by characters of the male genitalia.
