Syrphidae on lilies in our garden 50 km west of Cologne photographed today. Chrysotoxum elegans?
Could you confirm or correct this?

Chrysotoxum is correct. The key http://web.archiv...x_key.html starts with comparison of the length of the three antenna segments. As the antenna is quite blurred in the photos, we can only hope for an educated guess of a Syrphid expert!

Thank you, Sundew. It's good to know that one isn't too far off the mark. I'm adding another picture with a (hopefully) somewhat better view of the antenna. More detailed message later.
