can you please help identify this specimen ? Captured 5 July 2013, Southern Bohemia, Czech republic.

It is better to say nothing, I hardly know anything about hoverflies, but isn't this a Helophilus trivittatus girl?

Yet, you say something again! :-)))
But! Helophilus trivittatus is correct, the only thing is tha't it's a male, look at the knob at the end of the abdomen. In Helophilus males are dichoptic.....

well, Mr. Pennards, I am almost a Syrphidae specialist then! :p Thanks for making clear the difference between the males and females!!! Always handy.
I think I remember to have seen this species in Hungary.
