Thread subject: Diptera.info :: A Stratiomys species from Bulgaria

Another of the Dipteran species that I photographed in Bulgaria when leading a Botanical tour recently was this Stratiomyid, found in the Trigrad Gorge on 28 June 2013. I think this is a Stratiomys species but it looks very different to S. potamida which I have seen in the UK. It looks far too hairy for that and this feature together with the rather pale abdominal markings makes me wonder if it might be S.singularior. I would though welcome any suggestions from those more experienced and knowledgeable than I am.

Many thanks

Alan

Many thanks Ruud.

Yes I have the specimen. I would be more than happy to send it to you if you would be interested. This is a genus we do not get in Britain I think.

Thank you again

Alan

Yes, I am interested. Please, send me some and I will let you know which species. I have a collection of European species, but some are still missing.
Indeed, as far as I know the genus does not occur in the UK, nor in the Netherlands. In Hungary, for example, it is pretty common.
