,This handsome looking fly with an iridescent green thorax obliged by posing for this photograph, which means I stand some small chance of having it identified.
Although from the top it looks superficially similar to specimens of
Poecilobothrus nobilitatus that are currently swarming all over the same location, that species has different coloured eyes, not to mention visible white wingtips absent in this insect. It's also a lot smaller than the superficially similar
Sargus species I photographed last year, which in any case has a brassy rather than green thorax. Consequently, any assistance identifying this will be welcome!
Specimen photographed at OS Grid Reference SJ496853, 2013-06-29, 16:14 to 16:15 BST. Ambient weather: sunny, warm, with moderate breeze.

I think it's Microchrysa polita it is common in compost and places with rotting plants.
