Hi,
On 10th May I saw many of these beautiful Limoniids on a pond edge in southern Brandenburg. I would name them Limnophila arnoudi, referring to this thread: http://www.dipter...pid=153438. There is no supernumerary crossvein in cell dm, so not Eloeophila, and the femora have a black apical ring, so not Limnophila schranki. Would you agree?

Dear Niels-Jan, you make me very curious: how did you know? I would like to learn the discriminating characters between L. arnoudi and L. pictipennis, too! In the thread cited above the only statement for L. pictipennis is: "genitalia with a broader style, wings generally broader". Where do I see a "style" in the genitalia photo? I learnt that there are dististyli (http://www.dipter...d_id=21796). Wing shape can be estimated only by comparison, and the pattern of the dark spots is said to be quite variable. So I wonder what character you based yor ID on!

L. pictipennis is easily distinguished from L. schranki and L. arnoudi by the black apical ring on the femora, in the other species a big part of the femora is black and they have a more greyish rather than brown appearance. Wing pattern is also different.
L. arnoudi and L. schranki are more difficult to distinguish, only by male genitalia. In L. arnoudi tergite 9 doesn't have a V-shaped notch and the inner style is a little different. With 'style' the same is meant as dististylus.
