I'd say the abdomen is too orange for exclusus. Maybe fraseri? Do you have closer pictures of the frons?

According to Chvala, 1972, Tabanus fraseri is an Eastern Mediterranean species which do not occur in Spain and known from Balkan peninsula and adjacent countries. In my opinion your specimen is fit well to the description of fraseri, so I'm feeling a little clueless. Therefore we have to wait for Theo's opinion :)

I see Sergiy's point, but it is not fraseri.
Tabanus fraseri is badly treated in CLM (not Sergiy's fault !): the most important feature - its very short palpus - has not been mentioned by CLM. I have several from Greece and Turkey.
Normally, in case of 'pseudofraseri' you are dealing with reddish exclusus.
However, in this case, the subcallus seems to be totally shining.
so maybe another species in the glaucopis-group.

Hello,
I don't have the Spanish book by now. But I'm looking at Krcmar et al (Tabanidae of Croatia, "KHH") and I see:
- The upper callus of my female seems to be different to exclusus
- Could it be an anomalous small glaucopis?
- Could you tell me which other species are in the glaucopis group? (my spanish "incertae sedis" are: albifrons, barbarus, brassofortei, castellanus, cognatus, flavofemoratus, iber, lavandonii, martinii).

First of all iber Peus = castellanus
brassofortei, castellanus, cognatus are in the glaucopis group
flavofemoratus is near bromius
lavadoni = eggeri
martinii is in the cordigergroup, but aberant.
albifrons and barbarus are both a class on their own.

The specimen is in not good condition, since it was found dead.
I'd really need the specimen to be able to say more.
I will be happy to look at it, after July 15th !
So don't send it now, please.

Hello again
I have revised my Tabanidae collection and I have concluded that is
Tabanus glaucopis, a species that has a large amount of variation.
In fact, I have written a note of my conclusions to recognize that species here

I hope it can be useful
(please comment if you do not agree or can correct my english)
All the best,
Rafael
