Thread subject: Diptera.info :: South East Asia fly is a Bee fly (Bombyliidae, Ligyra sp)

Hi. I was hoping someone on this forum could help me identify the attached hoverfly. The photos were taken last weekend in Singapore. I've seen a few photos online identifying it as a hoverfly but no one has a specific ID. The fly was seen in low grass. It has a distinctive orange body and purplish wings.

It is a bee fly belonging to Bombyliidae. Guess it is a Ligyra sp.?

Thanks @chickenold for setting me straight on it being a bee fly. I did some more research after reading your reply and found a similar looking bee fly on diptera.info at the link below and it looks like the same specimen and is mentioned as possibly Ligyra oenomaus. The user mentions collecting some specimens in Singapore and Malaysia which is consistent with my location.
