This month (January) I have been observing numerous flies on the snow. Many of they have been mating. Does anyone know the family of this one?

This photo was taken on January 19, 2013 in Juneau, Alaska.

It is Clinocera sp. (Empididae). It lives on the stones of the fast and cold rivers.

Thanks so much Nikita. The place we find most of them is at Nugget Falls near the Mendenhall Glacier. A very large fast flowing falls. What are the advantages of these insects emerging in January in Alaska?
