Hello,

is it possible to identify this fly. May be Clytocerus splendidus? Found in Germany, Mecklenburg Vorpommern, RĂ¼gen, on 23rd august 2012.

Many thanks
Eugen

Most likely no -- the scale pattern is very different from the specimens in the gallery here. The taxonomy of the Clytocerus ocellaris complex is still very poorly explored, and none of the species can be identified with certainty without microscope slide preparations of the male's genitalia.
I can't even say for certain whether this is a Clytocerus or not...!
