Locaton: Hungary
Size: just a few mm.
Habitat: garden
Date: 13-02-07

I found it on an sorb-tree in my garden. It was very tiny and perfectly motionless and sat benumbed on a branch. It seemed to be like a Ladybird but it was smaller maybe. Has four red spots on its black chitin as you can see below. Probably not a rare species but I don't know what this beetle is exactly.

I think this is a common variant of Adalia bipunctata. Very common in Hungary.

I agree with Xespok. This is a colour variation of Adalia bipunctata. See original type of A.bipunctata coloration on the picture attached.

I agree with Ben, this must be E. 4-pustulatus. Shape and position of the spots point directly to that species.

Just a reminder that Fauna Europaea also expresses the opinion of the contributing/consulted specialists when it come to the nomenclature used. It does not always mean that is the most widely accepted nomenclature, though usually it probably is.

Hi

Thank you all of you who tried to ID this beetle. "N?gypettyes szerencsekata" is the nice Hungarian name of this beetle probably undecipherable for you:D
