Certain characteristics are - all femora and tarsi grey, all tibiae yellow. Wings, squamae and halteres pale brown. Arista long-plumose. Palpi blackish. Protruding mouth-edge. Uniserial row of 4 bristles below vibrissi and one above, 2 pre- and 3 post-sutural dc’s, scutellar apicals strongly crossed in basal third. Sternopleurals 1:2.
All suggestions welcome.

Could be Hylemya vagans.

Thank you Stephen I'll see how that pans out with the key. I need some named specimens as I'm finding the key pretty hard going as a beginner with this family.

For male Hylemya with tibia yellowish or ochre brown:
Hylemya vagans: with upper occiput beneath postoculars bare
Hylemya urbica / variata: with upper occiput beneath postoculars setulose

Hylemya urbica: longest rays of arista barely as long as width of postpedicel + frons at narrowest past more than half as wide as outer distance between posterior ocelli

Hylemya variata: longest ray af arista distinctly longer than width of postpedicel + frons at narrowest part at the most half as wide as outer distance between posterior ocelli
(with thanks to V. Michelsen, from his paper about Hylemya)

The tibia of H. urbica/variata can differ between yellowish/brown, to very dark / brown

Thanks Joke, I will check this out when I can see the specimen again on Sunday and add this valuable information to the key.

Joke, in this case I will say vagans according to your criteria. Many thanks.
