Hi

on a very cold day, after 3 days in series of ground frost, this syrphid came for a short visit on my balcony. no luck on other side: flash was not working, no sunshine there and the hoverfly was only sitting on my hand.
Could it be a male of Didea? Didea fasciata? A very nice syrphid and the first time I saw one of it.

Switzerland, 18.11.2011, balcony, 430 msm, near Lake Zurich

Thanks a lot for any help, Brigitte

Xanthandrus comtus, in Didea the vein R4+5 is strongly bent.

Brigitteu, don't worry, you don't need more pictures ;) It is a nice male Xanthandrus comtus. I still need to see one of those :)

Best

Piluca

Hi Piluca
Thanks a lot too! And good luck - it's really a very nice hoverly.
