Hi,
Today I came across this small brachypterous fly running to and fro on sedge leaves in our arboretum. It reminded me of the Anthomyzid Stiphrosoma sabulosum (http://www.dipter...d_id=22566); however, there are some differences. The fly of today has a brown thorax, and head and thorax don't show such prominent setae. It is a pity I could not get better pics, but the fly was so small and fast-running. What do you think - is it another Stiphrosoma species?
Help is gratefully appreciated! Sundew

Probably Elachiptera - a Chloropid fly ;)

Andrzej, you are great!! My Elachiptera collection includes only species with well developed wings, and these look much different. So I would never have thought of a Chloropid. However, Walter's Elachiptera brevipennis (http://diptera.in...d_id=41323) fits perfectly! No doubt, it's the same. (And Walter seems to have a better macro lens...)
Many thanks indeed - I am delighted with that new taxon.
