Thread subject: Diptera.info :: couple of hymenopterans

I took these pictures at Ben Cruachan, Argyll, Scotland in June 2011.

Can anyone give these a name, even if not specifically.

It's best to split threads so that you have 1 insect per thread topic ... otherwise this kind of thing can get confusing ;)

The first wasp looks like Sphecidae to me and the second is Ichnumonidae ... both Hymenoptera but not closely related. If you add more photos it might help - different angles are important but IDs of ichneumonids is usually very hard from photos ;)

The first one looks like Mellinus arvensis (Crabronidae), with somewhat reduced yellow markings when compared the the norm.
