Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Another green fly

With my overly simple insect guide I arrived at Cynomyia, based mainly on the shape of the abdomen. Can anyone (dis)confirm my uneducated guess? Photograph taken in Belgium, near Stavelot (Ardennes). 19 August 2006.

I think you are correct (at least, not if the photo changes as with the Lucilia :P).

Excellent male Cynomya mortuorum - grey striped thorax, undusted green or blue abdomen and orange anterior frons are the unmistakable combination.

For some reasons, Cynomyia is green in the Ardennes.
In the Netherlands, it is (nearly) always blue.
Any clues why ?

Both color forms occur in Finland, but blue is dominating.

Only ever seen green in England and Scotland.
