Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Shiny Muscidae USA 2011-VII-27 (= Morellia podagrica)

New Hampshire, USA July 27, 2011.

The usual metallic Muscidae here is Eudasyphora. I don't see the bristle on the tibia, possibly because the angle of the legs hides it.

It is a Morellia.

Thank you. We have three species but I only have a key to separate two of them. Possibly Morellia micans (Macquart). The third is M. basalis (Walker), which was transferred from another genus after Huckett's key.

This is Morellia podagrica : we can see the spiny swelling at the base of mid tibia.

Thanks again. My mistake shows the difficulty of using a key without illustrations or comparative material -- I was looking for a bigger swelling with longer spines.
