...but I can't seem to find what this could be.

Rather large fly (10-15mm?) visiting flowers (goldenrud etc) on an unused patch of land of business park "Boeldershoek" near Hengelo (Overijssel) in the Netherlands. Photo taken 2006-09-11

Thanks for any tips

Hi Arp

This is quite OK to ask stupid questions. As my teacher used to say: you learn the most by asking stupid questions.

Your fly is Cynomyia mortuorum (Calliphoridae), dutch: Lijkenvlieg

Unmistakeble indeed

(they come in green as well)

Thanks Theo,

It's just amazing how much easier it is to find matching pictures once you have name :p

Unbecomming name btw, for the easy-going flower-visiting critter it appeared to be that day.

Thanks again
