France, Dordogne. 14th April 2011. Deciduous woodland on limestone.
My first encounter with
Caliprobola speciosa, they are stunning:)
Males were seen in small patches of sunlight under trees and in late afternoon in more open areas. They trailed their reddish hind legs in flight as reasonable mimics of
Polistes wasps.
