Hello!
Could this be a female Coenosia humilis? It was big, around 8mm. Near Lincoln UK on 11th April 2011
Janet :)

They certainly resemble my 2 specimens, but 8mm seems
way too big.

Coenosia have 1+3 dc ; here 2+3. I think it's
Macrorchis meditata ! Nikita can tell if I'm wrong or not.

I also thought the size was too big for Coenosia humilis.
Thank you Stephane, I'll change the title! That would be a nice one! Nikita has one in the gallery but it doesn't show the thorax. I'm trying to work out which are the 2+3 but I'll take your word for it. ;)

As usually I have nothing to add to Stephane's identification.
P.S. Macrorchis meditata is a big species, but of course, not as big as 8mm.

Thanks for the confirmation Nikita, maybe it was 7mm but I couldn't quite see behind the wings. Or, it's been very well fed. :D
