I've had this photo since 08/09 it seems its hard to ID so I would appreciate any help on taking it further, the markings on the tergites are much thicker than the Syrphus genus so it's a bit of a puzzle

In E. nielseni, the lateral margins of tergite 5 are black. This is E. corollae, judging from the large pregenital segments.

Thank you both for pointing me on the right track

I can see that the lunate spots reach the sides of the tergites- just also
