Hi
Is this fly a soldierfly of the genus Beris and if so which species?

Yes, Beris - I believe the posterior spines are a feature of the Genus. Now, over to someone else...

For sure it is a Beris, a vallata or clavipes, but I am too lazy now to go out of bed and check which one. If nobody will let you which species, I will see tomorrow evening

Thanks guys!
I checked those two species' maps at the NBN Gateway and found records of vallata in my area (near Edinburgh, Scotland). The nearest records for clavipes seem to be further south around the Solway. This doesn't discount clavipes though of course.

How are the two species told apart?

B. vallata because the black on the tibia extends beyond the tip.
