Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Fanniidae Fannia? male

Hello,

Only one shot, taken on 11th June 2010 in my garden near Lincoln UK.

This looks to me like Fannia incisurata but there are a lot of Fannia species!

The male certainly does look the same as mine, I will have to see if I have a female too as the pics on that site show the female well.

A thought entered my head when comparing the pics, that is the 'zig-zag' effect between the eyes of the male. I wonder if the species name 'incisurata' has something to do with that as in 'incised' where it appears to be cut into?

You see how many Fannia species we have! But sometimes a visible feature which no other species has can be the deciding factor.
