Hello!
This Dipteran of 10-12 mm length visited our garden light yesterday evening (Ostwestfalen/Germany). To which family does it belong? Possibly Keroplatidae? Thanks in advance!

Anisopodidae, probably
Sylvicola (S.) cinctus or
S. (S.) fenestralis.

I know
Sylvocola, they were numerously around there yesterday, too. But this one was at least of double size and also more heavily built!?! It was more like a small Tipulid than the tiny Anisopodidae.

Within some species there can be considerable variation in size. And on average, subgenus
Sylvicola (in my experience) is somewhat bigger than subgenus
Anisopoda.

Thanks! When disregarding the size it really looks like a
Sylvicola. They were numerous tonight, too - all with "normal" size. And they seem to like bananas... :D
