This is Tachinidae, right? Is it possible to take the ID any further?

What a robust thorax! The bristles seem thinner than usual.

The photo was taken on a garden flower, West Virginia, USA, 3 September 2006.

ID help appreciated.

The bristles are thin because it belongs to Phasiinae subfamily (I think).

I am not convinced it is a tachinid ... but I know very little about the North American fauna. Do you have any other angles we could look at?

You could all be right.
I don't know.
Could even be a Muscidae Muscinae.

Alas, I have only this one angle. My memory is that it was small but I didn't get a measurement. I wonder if I can find this guy again?
