This is one of my best finds during a week spent in the Russian North (hot as it mostly was, though). 2 males and 1 female, August 12; 3 females and 1 male, August 13, and 1 female, August 17, 2010, environs of Solvychegodsk, Arkhangelsk region, 61.34212N, 46.91382E. Size of males ca. 2.2 to 2.5 mm, that of females approx. 2.7 to 3 mm. Wings carry 7 to 8 white spots in 2 rows.

Divergent postocellar bristles are clearly visible here.

Habitat: edge of (once) wet bushes (mostly
Salix),
Carex/Calla palustris/Comarum palustre.

Very typical habitat for this fly. It most probably it lives on some
Carex species.
