body ~7-8mm. The kind that does not let to be disturbed, You can push it with finger for better photo position and it does not fly away.

Empis (Xanthempis) sp. Cannot ID it here with no literature at hand.

What is about this one gray stripe on thorax, google has images with one or two stripe of same species (forinstance Empis digramma, doh the stripe on mine to short to be e.d.). Is this male/female thing ? Does gray stripe tells anything at all regarding id ?

I asm certain that thwe shortened broad median stripe is something specific for this taxon. Otherwise, among Xanthempis species the number of stripes can vary from 0 to 1 to 2 to 3 to 4...
