Photographed today in a pinewood near Rome, Italy, about 5 mm long. I thought at first it was an Anthomyiidae, then the doubts began and I wondered if it wasn't in fact a Muscidae.

Hi Sarah -
Well doubted! Compare Anthomyia male in http://www.dipter...#post_5532 to Limnophora male in http://www.dipter...post_11001.
Note the comparatively larger, more conical abdomen in the Limnophora and the smaller, more club-shaped abdomen of Anthomyia.
I'm not sure that this is tigrina, but if not, it's a closely related species.
