3-4mm, Lancashire England 12 June 2010, mud and stones in shallow stream.
Can this be determined? I can't see a strong bristle on the mid coxa, and there is a well-developed tubercle on the scutellum. Do I gather from previous discussions that this indicates P. coarctata, given this wing venation?

High genae and darkened fork of R2+3, darkened completely mcu - maybe Parydra littoralis? In coarctata fork of R2+3 is not darkened and mcu is darkened on the upper half. However the size of this fly is too small for P.littoralis female, it is to be 4-5 mm.

I checked the size again: definitely less than 4mm - more like 3.5.
