A species of
Solva of the Xylomyidae. There are two North American species:
S. crepuscula, accoring to North American catalog in Miss.; Conn. to Va.
S. pallipes, in Ill., Wis. Mnot. to N.B.; south to Calif. and Miss.

Thanks very much for the ID on this neat little fly. Since I am in Illinois that should make it S. pallipes.
I thought I detected a resmblance to my only other member of this family, the larger Macroceromys americana.
Is it possible, when I forget to check the notify box to do so later? I saw no opportunity in the edit.

You should be able to check the option when you just read the thread. No need to edit a post.

Hehe, the lastest info I used was the Manual of Nearctic Diptera of 1981. ;)
